Posting late like 🧛‍♀️ 🌙 We are so excited to announce the repeat breeding of Judee × Tormund for Sunbuilt Retrievers’ upcoming ‘G’alaxy Litter! 🌌
When we planned their first litter, our goal was to bring together health, temperament, structure, trainability, and working potential, with an emphasis on producing puppies capable of succeeding as service and therapy dogs while still being wonderful family companions that excel in sports.
That first chapter gave us more than we could have hoped for. ❤️ Of their nine puppies, all selected via temperament testing went on to work successfully, five as Service Dogs and one as a Certified Therapy Dog 🦮, giving us the opportunity to see what this pairing could produce beyond puppyhood. We unanimously decided to write in the stars our Chapter Two! ☄️
This litter brings together Judee’s assistance dog purpose-bred and conformation show lineage with Tormund’s esteemed pedigree, athleticism, working ability, and focused drive. Our goal is to preserve the qualities we value so highly in both parents: their shared love for sports and training, wonderful off-switches, affectionate temperaments, and eagerness to work alongside their people.
Both parents are fully OFA and genetic health tested. As always, our puppies will be raised through a comprehensive daily curriculum designed to provide an excellent foundation in early development and socialization, with health and temperament at the forefront of everything we do.

Allya puppies, ‘E’lements Cobalt 💙and ‘F’riends Timmy 💙 (Joey), came to support the Greater Houston Golden Retriever Club crew and represent at Meet the Breed! It was a pleasure watching the gorgeous AKC Goldens at the show! 🙌 Coby didn’t compete (I’m sure you can tell that he’s not in full groom). Lately I’ve been focusing on helping my grandma kick cancer’s butt and continuing to socialize the ‘F’riends puppies, but we hope to get back into the swing of things again sometime soon 🦮 #akcgoldenretriever #showdog #houstonworldseriesofdogshows #houston

The ‘F’riends 9️⃣ Week Old Photos!! 🐾
We’re a little late with these... oops! 😅
The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind as we’ve been focused on giving these puppies as many positive experiences as possible while getting everything ready for them to head off to their new families. Between training, socialization outings, meeting new people, storms and flooding, and preparing all of their go-home packets, social media has definitely taken a back seat. Our hearts are so full watching some of these puppies begin the next chapter of their lives this week. We are beyond grateful and incredibly blessed to have such wonderful people welcoming a Sunbuilt puppy into their homes. Thank you for trusting us with such an important decision. It means more than you know. 🫶 We can’t wait to watch these little ones grow, cheer on all of their adventures, and welcome each of them into our Sunbuilt family. Some of the pups will be staying a little longer so stay tuned for more of the fun with these little ‘F’riends! One of the most important skills we work on before our puppies go home is learning how to be comfortable being alone and in the kennel. 🏠
It can be tempting to spend every waking moment with a new puppy, but learning that it’s okay to be by themselves for short periods is an important life skill. Puppies who never practice being alone are at a greater risk of struggling to settle, developing frustration, dependence, or undesirable separation-related behaviors as they grow.
Throughout the week, each puppy spends time in a kennel and individual time away from their littermates and people in a safe, calm, and positive environment. We pair alone time with enrichment, chews, naps, and opportunities to settle so they learn that being by themselves isn’t something to fear. It’s simply part of everyday life!
These sessions start out short and are always designed to set each puppy up for success. Building confidence and independence now helps create puppies that are better prepared for life with their new families.

Eight weeks already... it’s hard to believe these sweet puppies are almost ready to begin the next chapter of their lives. ❤️
This past week has been full of exciting adventures! The puppies had the opportunity to participate in yoga, where they met dozens of new people of all ages, experienced new environments, and enjoyed countless gentle, positive interactions. It was such a wonderful socialization experience for them. Every new person, voice, smell, and handling experience helps build confidence during this critical stage of development for the real world.
Beyond that, the puppies have continued their individual training sessions, field trips, grooming practice, crate training, and confidence-building activities. We have been spending hours each day getting to know every puppy as an individual so we can make the best possible matches for their future families.
The matching process is officially underway, and we couldn’t be more excited for our wonderful families. Thank you all for trusting us to take the time to truly understand each puppy’s personality before making recommendations. Watching these relationships begin is one of our favorite parts of breeding. A huge thank you to Katie for conducting their temperament evaluations! 🐾 These assessments, combined with our daily observations and one-on-one work with each puppy, help us make the best possible matches for their future families.
We’ve been spending a lot of our time working with the puppies individually every day, focusing on confidence building, handling, problem-solving, socialization, potty training, and the foundations that will help set them up for success in their future homes. Every spare moment is being spent making the most of the precious time we have left with them. Real World Socialization: Texas Edition 🤠🌧️ I had the ‘F’riends puppies outside when it unexpectedly started POURING, with heavy rain making extremely loud noises on the metal roof of their play area. Instead of making it scary, we turned it into a puppy party! 💃🎉 It was SO loud that I was literally yelling “YAAAY!” in my happiest excited voice and dancing around while the puppies confidently played. Pro tip: when something startling happens around your puppy, your response matters. Dogs are incredibly observant of our body language, tone, and emotional cues. By staying upbeat, playful, and confident yourself, you can often help shape how they interpret novel experiences. For example, if a motorcycle backfires, something falls unexpectedly, or there’s a sudden loud noise like a firework boom, avoid accidentally communicating concern through tense body language or anxious reassurance like saying “it’s okay”. Instead, if your puppy seems comfortable enough to keep engaging, act like something fun just happened. 🎉 Building positive associations with novel sounds, environments, and experiences early REALLY matters, especially for future service dogs. These little babies handled it beautifully! 🦮🙌

The ‘F’riends litter’s 4️⃣ week photos! These guys are becoming more interactive by the day! This stage brings more exploration, social development, play, and early exposure to the building blocks that help shape resilient puppies. We are loving every second! They’ve started car and crate exposure, baths and blow drying, meeting the family dogs, moving into a larger space, bigger collars, barrier challenges, scent imprinting on heart rate and glucose samples, and are doing amazing every step of the way. The ‘F’riends litter’s 4️⃣ week photos! These guys are becoming more interactive by the day! This stage brings more exploration, social development, play, and early exposure to the building blocks that help shape resilient puppies. We are loving every second! They’ve started car and crate exposure, baths and blow drying, meeting the family dogs, moving into a larger space, bigger collars, barrier challenges, scent imprinting on heart rate and glucose samples, and are doing amazing every step of the way. First puppy mush meal for the F’riends crew! 🥣✨🐾

They’ve grown 🦷 now! So around this age, we begin the gradual weaning process by introducing a soft “puppy mush” while puppies are still actively nursing from mom. This helps support healthy growth while allowing puppies to slowly learn how to eat independently at a developmentally appropriate pace.

Their mush is made from a carefully soaked blend of high-quality puppy kibble and puppy milk replacer to create a warm, easy-to-eat meal that supports hydration, digestion, and nutrition during this transition period.

At this stage, meals are about much more than nutrition alone. Puppies are learning how to approach food confidently, appropriate social behavior around littermates during meals, early problem-solving and sensory exploration, independence away from mom in short, positive experiences!

We keep the process slow and gradual to help protect both physical health and emotional development. Mom is still nursing and continues to play a very important role in their growth, comfort, immune support, and social learning. ⛅️

Watching puppies discover their first meals is always one of my favorite milestones in raising a litter.

These little ones have already started their early socialization journey. They’ve been listening to curated sound exposures and exploring new experiences like rain, novel objects in their box, a mini playground, meeting new people, and interacting with safe, well-mannered doggy family members.

We’re also continuing our early handling routines, including nail trims every 3 days, and they’re doing so well learning to be comfortable with the process.
